Explanation
In faroese language, which is decentant of norse language, the days mean something. For example; Mánadagur is moon-day. After the moon. Týsdagur is Týrs-dagur. Týr is the asgard god of war. Mikudagur is miðvikudagur, which means "middle of the week day". But some dialects in the Faroes call the day "Onsdagur", and this is the older version. "Onsdagur" means "Óðinsdagur", in english "Odins-day", the father of all asgard gods. Hósdagur is Thors-day, after the god of thunder, Thor. Fríggjadagur is Friggs-day. Frigg is Odins wife in asgard mythology. Leygardagur is washing-day. "laugar" is norse and means "to bath". Sunnudagur is of course Sun-day. After the sun.
